Essay on The Civil RightsEssay Writing Service
Essay on The Civil RightsEssay Writing Service Essay on The Civil Rights Essay on The Civil RightsAlthough some people consider that the Voting Rights Act was a logical conclusion to the Civil Rights Movement, many people have different views on this issue. Actually, since the Civil Rights coalition seemed to fall apart after 1965, the true promise of the Civil Rights Act and thus the Civil Right Movement were somehow left unfulfilled. For many blacks the Voting Rights Act was crucial as this issue had been the key factor in the presidential election and affected their racial identity. Many blacks were registered as voters (Bolick 234).à à In fact, the racial problems were rapidly diminished, but many other social challenges remained unsolved. The Civil Right Act of 1964prohibited racial discrimination practically at all levels of American society. According to researchers, the true legacy of this act was narrowed because the ââ¬Å"civil rights reform that left the perpetual promise of the movement unfulfilledâ⬠(Waller 195). For example, the i mplemented approach to civil rights reforms in the United States highlighted in the Civil Rights Movement never challenged the established structure and functioning of the white power system. Due to the Civil Rights Act, black people had got access to public places, as well as obtained equal employment opportunities, comparing with whitesââ¬â¢ rights and opportunities (Bond 15). à However, the radical civil rights reform was not supported by the Civil Rights movement. As a result, ââ¬Å"the dominant and unassailable structure of exclusion remained in place even while giving the appearance of inclusionâ⬠(Waller 195). Undoubtedly, these facts influenced the shift in the protests of African-Americans ââ¬Å"from civil rights to black powerâ⬠(Cashman 206).à Since the 1960, various protest movement were launched because of anti-Vietnam war opposition, increased student activism and unfulfilled civil rights reforms. Thus, I believe that the Voting Rights Act was not a logical conclusion to the Civil Rights Movement.

How to Write an Outstanding College Application Essay
How to Write an Outstanding College Application Essay The college application essay is an essential part of the admissions process. However, when Prompt.com reviewed thousands of application essays, the company noticed that the average essay was rated C.à A report by the National Association for College Admission Counseling found that grades in college prep courses were the most important factor, followed by admission test scores. However, the application essay was ranked much higher than recommendations from counselors and teachers, class rank, the interview, extracurricular activities and many other factors. Since the college application essay is so important, ThoughtCo spoke with several experts to discover the best ways to write one that will win over college admissions officers. Why the College Application Essay is So Important So many elements are included in the application process that students may wonder why they need to worry about the essay. Brad Schiller, co-founder and CEO of Prompt.com, tells ThoughtCo that many applicants to the same schools may have comparable grades and test scores. ââ¬Å"However, the essay is the differentiator; its one of the few pieces of an application over which a student has direct control, and it provides readers with a sense of who the student is, how the student will fit in at the school, and how successful the student will be both in collegeà and upon graduation.â⬠And for students with an uneven profile, the college application essay may provide a chance to shine. Christina DeCario, the associate director of Admissions at the College of Charleston, tells ThoughtCo that the essay provides clues about a studentââ¬â¢s writing skills, personality and preparedness for college. She advises students to view the essay as an opportunity. ââ¬Å"If your profile is a little uneven, like youââ¬â¢re successful outside the classroom but your grades arenââ¬â¢t quite there, or youââ¬â¢re the valedictorian but youââ¬â¢re not a good test taker, the essay can push you from a maybe to a yes,â⬠DeCario explains. How to Choose a Topic According to Schiller, such topics as the studentââ¬â¢s goals, passions, personality, or periods of personal growth are all good areas in which to start brainstorming. However, he says that students rarely select topics in these areas. Cailin Papszycki, director of college admissions programs at Kaplan Test Prep agrees, and says the aim of the essay is to present the student as thoughtful and mature. ââ¬Å"The key is to inspire using a personal story that captures this quality.â⬠Papszycki believes that transformational experiences are great topics. ââ¬Å"For example, did you overcome extreme shyness by shining in the school musical production? Did a family crisis change your outlook on life and make you a better child or sibling?â⬠When students can tell a sincere and persuasive story, Papszycki says colleges believe they can bring distinct experiences to the college environment. Creativity is also a good tool to employ when writing the essay. Merrilyn Dunlap, interim director of Admissions at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, tells ThoughtCo, ââ¬Å"I still remember reading an essay about why the orange flavored tic tac is the best tic tac to eat.â⬠She also recalls an essay that was written when the MasterCard ââ¬Å"pricelessâ⬠ads were popular. ââ¬Å"The student opened the essay with something like: Cost to visit five college campuses $200. Application fees for five colleges $300 Moving away from home for the first time priceless In addition, Dunlap says she likes to see essays on why a student chose a particular field of study because these types of essays tend to bring out the studentââ¬â¢s emotions. ââ¬Å"When they write about something that they are passionate about, it is in their favor; they become real to us.â⬠So, what types of topics should be avoided? Schiller cautions against any subject that could portray the student negatively. ââ¬Å"Some common poor choices of topics we see are getting poor grades due to lack of effort, depression or anxiety that you have not overcome, conflicts with other people that went unresolved, or poor personal decisions,â⬠he warns. Doââ¬â¢s and Donââ¬â¢ts to Writing a College Application Essay After choosing a compelling topic, our panel of experts offer the following advice. Create an outline.à Schiller believes that itââ¬â¢s important for students to organize their thoughts, and an outline can help them structure their thoughts. ââ¬Å"First, always start with the end in mind ââ¬â what do you want yourà readerà to think after reading your essay?â⬠And, he recommends using the thesis statement to quickly get to the essayââ¬â¢s main point. Donââ¬â¢t write a narrative. While Schiller admits that the college essay should provide information about the student, he warns against a long, rambling account. ââ¬Å"Stories and anecdotes are an integral part of showing your reader who you are, but a good rule of thumb is to make these no more than 40% of your word count and leave the rest of your words for reflection and analysis.â⬠Have a conclusion. ââ¬Å"So many essays start off well, the second and third paragraphs are solid, and then they just end,â⬠laments DeCario. ââ¬Å"You need to explain why you told me all the things you wrote about earlier in the essay; relate it to yourself and the essay question.â⬠Revise early and often. Donââ¬â¢t just write one draft and think youââ¬â¢re done. Papszycki says the essay will need to undergo several revisions ââ¬â and not just to catch grammatical errors. ââ¬Å"Ask your parents, teachers, high school counselors or friends for their eyes and edits.â⬠She recommends these individuals because they know the student better than anyone else, and they also want the student to succeed. ââ¬Å"Take their constructive criticism in the spirit for which they intend - your benefit.â⬠Proofread to the max. DeCario recommends having someone else proofread it. And then, she says the student should read it out loud. ââ¬Å"When you proofread, you should check for grammar and sentence structure; when someone else proofreads, they will be looking for clarity in the essay; when you read it out loud, youââ¬â¢ll catch errors or even entire missing words like ââ¬Ëaââ¬â¢ or ââ¬Ëandââ¬â¢ that you didnââ¬â¢t catch when you read it in your head.â⬠Donââ¬â¢t cram for the essay. Start early so there will be plenty of time. ââ¬Å"The summer before senior year can be a great time to start work on your essay,â⬠Papszycki explains. Use humor judiciously. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s fine to use wit and imagination, but dont try to be humorous if thats not your personality,â⬠Papszycki advises. She also warns against forcing humor because it can have an unintended effect.à à Additional Tips For students who want more information on ways to write a stellar college application essay, Schiller recommends a persona.prompt.com quiz that helps students identify their personas, and also an essay outlining tool.

Career Development through International Mobility Essay
Career Development through International Mobility - Essay Example The LVMH Company came into existence as a result of the merger of Moet et Chandon, one of the largest manufacturers of champagne in the world, with a renowned manufacturer of cognac, Hennessey. In 1987, this group further merged with a fashion house, Louis Vuitton. LVMH is a France based group with over 56000 human resources out of which 63% employees work in different locations of the world. There exist 50 prestigious brands under this group, making it recognized as a global giant. It deals with various activities that include business in fashion goods and leather, spirits and wines, perfumes and cosmetics, watches and jewelry, among others. In this assignment, is going to major in the company of Christian Dior, because it is LVMHââ¬â¢s major holding company. It possesses 42.38% of its shareholding and voting rights of 59.3%. Christian Diorââ¬â¢s mass shareholder is also the chairman of both companies. He is LVMHââ¬â¢s CEO. By successfully integrating various famous inspira tional brands, other companies that offer luxurious products, e.g.à Richemont and Gucci, which are now the division of French conglomerate, are doing the same. The assignment also covers Chateau dââ¬â¢Yquem, which is a part of the oldest variety of the group, the manufacturer of first-class vintage wine. In order to make possible the adjustments of cross-cultures, a challenge to train its expatriates for international projects is being faced by LVMH. Therefore, the process of adjustment, involving the training of the employee along with his/her family, would be accelerated. Currently, the language courses are being developed by both pre-departure and post-arrival training. Intercultural training needs to be completed shortly as there exists an international position that needs to be filled without any delay. Due to this short training, the pressure to perform is not executed on such employees. In few cases, new joiners are helped by subsidiaries and the permission is granted to trainees for preliminary field trips. However, as per rule, before sending a candidate to an international exposure, some former international exposure, for instance, through studies or previous professional exposure, must be possessed by him. The kind of business conducted by LVMH requires its employees to possess the mobility factor. Usually, the employees are not found turning down international projects and assignments but it has been observed that the factor that hinders the mobility of an employee is related to the spouse. To tackle this, those young graduates are offered international assignments who are mostly single and who realize the importance of such international assignments as these are likely to help them develop effectively.Ã

The Manager of a shop in Kirkham Mr. Peterson Essay Example for Free
The Manager of a shop in Kirkham Mr. Peterson Essay The Manager of a shop in Kirkham Mr. Peterson (Eclipse) has asked me to produce a presentation for the release of the new console Xbox to run in the shop windows that will display all the new features and games coming for it. Before this idea he used to just put a few posters up displaying the information. To produce this poster the manger used to just design the posters by hand and photocopy them. This is one manual way of designing the poster the new way will look better\professional and will be a lot easier to produce. There are a number of possible methods of solving this problem. I could use an animation but school does not have one of these. I have used a language called visual basic before. This lets me move text and pictures but this is very time consuming and I dont know how to do this. The only quick and simple solution would be to use a presentation package like Microsoft PowerPoint or Lotus Freelance. The manager of Eclipse wants the following to appear in the presentation: à The slide show should attract more attention by different animation effects à Information on the release dates and costs of the products. Reviews of at least 5 games and some hardware reviews. There should be a clear, introductory slide including a picture and information about the Xbox console. à The slide show should be stay the same color through all the slide show to make it look more professional à All text should be easy to read from a distance à The slides should move on every 8 seconds automatically à The slide show should run independent of the user All of these can be done very easily in Microsoft PowerPoint and use from a program such as paint\Paint Shop Pro to customize the pictures. All so I may use internet explorer (web browser) to gather more information and pictures. I will also be using camera\scanner to get picture of the console\games. Analyze I have decided to use Microsoft PowerPoint to solve the problem that he manager of eclipse has set me. This will allow me to solve all of the problems set in the identify section. Other software and hardware that I will include: Software Reason Paint Shop Pro To alter some of the images downloaded from the net, taken from clipart, to alter photographs and create my own camera software To transfer the images from the camera onto disk Internet Explorer The internet browser that I will use @ school/home to get information on the show and collect various images Scanner Software To scan images Magazines To get more information about the games/hardware A sound editor The school doesnt have one at the moment but I will need one to cut down the sounds Hardware Reason Fuji Finepix 2600 To take pictures of the console and pads Canon CanoScan To scan images from magazines HP DeskJet 1220PS To print the images so that the manager of eclipse can check the layout Input I will be collecting information from a number of sources. These include: Getting all the information that the manager know about the Xbox. Going on the internet to find out what other people know about the Xbox. Pictures of the Xbox from the internet, camera and scanner. Sounds already on PowerPoint to give flying in effect and sounds from the internet. Processing I will probably need to change the font size and type of the writing so that it becomes easy to read. Similarly I will need to make sure that the font colour is adjusted so that it stands out against the background. I then decided to keep the same background and font for all of the slides to make it look more professional. So I will make the background and font as interesting and eye-catching. The digital pictures will need processing. Either by using paint shop pro to adjust the colours or the cropping tool in PowerPoint. I will change the look of the image. In PowerPoint I may need to rotate the images. In PowerPoint I will animate the text and the images. I will make a random transition between one slide and the next. The animation effects and the slide transitions will move on after a few seconds. I may need to take the sound clips into a music editor to remove parts of the sounds I dont need. Output. The main output will be a minimum of 7 slides. In order to check if the presentation is OK for the manager of eclipse I will print out the presentation with 6 slides on a piece of paper. Backup/Security Since the majority of the work will be done at school where the work will be saved on the school network. This means that the work will be backed up every night. During a lesson I will save my work regularly-just in case the power fails or if theres a problem with the computer. Once the presentation has been installed, the computer that runs the program is locked away so that no one can alter the programme.

Sir Thomas More Essay example -- essays research papers fc
Thomas More was born in Milk Street, London on February 7, 1478, son Sir John More, a prominent judge. He was educated at St Anthony's School in London. As a youth he served as a page in the household of Archbishop Morton, who predecited he would be a "marvellous man."1. More went on to study at Oxford under Thomas Linacre and William Grocyn. During this time, he wrote comedies and studied Greek and Latin literature. One of his first works was an English translation of a Latin biography of the Italian humanist Pico della Mirandola. It was printed by Wynkyn de Worde in 1510. Around 1494 More returned to London to study law, was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1496, and became a barrister in 1501. Yet More did not automatically follow in his father's footsteps. He was torn between a monastic calling and a life of civil service. While at Lincoln's Inn, he determined to become a monk and subjected himself to the discipline of the Carthusians, living at a nearby monastery and taking part of the monastic life. The prayer, fasting, and penance habits stayed with him for the rest of his life. More's desire for monasticism was finally overcome by his sense of duty to serve his country in the field of politics. He entered Parliament in 1504, and married for the first time in 1504 or 1505. More became a close friend with Desiderius Erasmus (ca. 1466-1536) during the latter's first visit to England in 1499. It was the beginning of a lifelong friendship and correspondence. Th...

Water Pollution Contamination
POLLUTION INTRODUCTION Pollution is the act of environmental humiliation and contamination with artificial waste. Air, water, and soil pollution is a serious complication, which affects everyone in the world. Some of the main causes of pollution is the lack of laws to new industries as well as a poorly educated society. Due to environmental pollution, the society has put pressure on the government to create and carry out diverse policies to the control of environmental pollutants. LAND POLLUTIONLand pollution is the deposition of waste materials be it liquid or solid state either underground or the land that could pollute the natural resources like the soil, underground water. Land pollution also threatens public health and is the root of further Causes: land pollution takes place when unwanted materials of all kinds like garbage, rubbish and trash from different places are disposed to the land. Materials consist of moist food, paper, and glass, plastic, Etc. Also material such as ce ment, metals, rubble concrete are buried in the ground. Furthermore, factories eliminate hazardous chemicals and liquids into the grounds.Contaminated effluent from subsurface sewage disposal can also be a cause of land pollution. Garbage left in open dumps often has breeding of animals such as rats, cockroaches, mosquitoes and other disease carriers. They also root the cause of bad smell, windblown debris and other irritants. Windblown debris could cause contamination of lakes, rivers or wells nearby leaving more room for diseases. Methane, a hazardous gas is given out by decomposing garbage. Misusing of land like deforestation and use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers further pollute the land Effects: Climate: Due to land pollution, the forest cover on earth is decreasing which affects the climate. This results in less rain which leads to fewer pure water resources. Therefore, all living things: the flora and the fauna that rely on fresh water for life are affected. Land poll ution also leads to acid rains, greenhouse effect and global warming. â⬠¢Extinction: Land pollution leads to deforestation resulting in many species losing their habitat which is one of the main causes of extinction. â⬠¢Bio magnification: this process takes place when a particular non-biodegradable substance accumulates in the food chain. This puts not only the specie consuming it in danger, but all the species connected to the food chain. Overall results in affecting the food pyramid â⬠¢Biodiversity: extinction will result in unbalanced and disturbed biodiversity. For example, if a species goes extinct the specie it feeds on will see a number of increase.! WAYS TO REDUCE LAND POLLUTION: â⬠¢Reduce Product packaging: as the consumer market grows, more elaborate and fine packaging is used. This increases the waste produced every year and leads to further land pollution. A way companies have started to go green is make reusable and recycled packaging that attracts the co nsumers. Recycle: Using materials that are recycled. Stop wasting paper and using recycled paper. Give away old books and newspapers to recycle companies. Avoid using materials such as plastic. Recycling helps in reducing the amount of waste dumped in dump fills. Cans and metals could be recycled. â⬠¢Composting: According to scientists, it takes about a decade for a land fill to decompose. Composting helps in decomposition due to its design which helps in flow of air. Yard trimmings and food that are decomposed help in reducing the land pollution AIR POLLUTIONAir pollution is one of the major problems that our planet is suffering from , its affecting our daily life without our notice as its content of poisonous gases and acid rain and many other gases from the burned fossil fuel and transportation and industries, we inhale without our notice it may damage our lungs and affects our health. Air pollution is defined as ââ¬Å" the introduction of chemicals, particulate matter, or b iological materials that cause harm or discomfort to humans or other living organisms, or cause damage to the natural environment or built environment, into the atmosphere. (wikipedia, 2012) Causes of air pollution:- The causes of air pollution are many like as I previously mentioned, it could be because of the burning of fussel fuels such as gasoline , oil, coal and natural gas, the daily usage of electricity , the exhaust gas of cars and vehicles specially and not to forget the main natural cause of air pollution is dust. ââ¬Å"We also cause air pollution indirectly, when we buy goods and services that use energy in their production and delivery. (Air pollution, 2011) The pollutents are those substances which causes the air pollution , it could be gases, liquid droplets or solid substances sometimes like lead and mercury. Iââ¬â¢ll mention some important primary pollutants which are carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and sulphur oxides . -Sulpher oxides: usually obtained from the industries and is widely spread in paper manufacture industries and combine with rain droplets and produces acid rain , alsoââ¬Å" is produced by volcanoes and in various industrial processes. ââ¬Å"(Wikipedia, 2012) -Nitrogen oxides: the main source of nitrogen oxides are cars and vehicles. nitrogen dioxide are emitted from high temperature combustion, and are also produced naturally during thunderstorms by electrical dischargeâ⬠(wikipedia, 2012) -Carbon dioxide: ââ¬Å"a colorless, odorless, non-toxic greenhouse gas also associated with ocean acidification, emitted from sources such as combustion, cement production, and respiration. â⬠(wikipedia, 2012) -Carbon monoxide: caused in the burning of coal, fossil fuels and wood , itââ¬â¢sââ¬Å" a colorless, odorless, non-irritating but very poisonous gas. It is a product by incomplete combustion of fuel such as natural gas, coal or wood.Vehicular exhaust is a major source of carbon monoxide. â⬠(wikipedi a, 2012) Effects of air pollution:- Air pollution causes a lot problems and has a lot of impact on us as humans , talking about its effects I will mention three major point to discuss, ââ¬Ë the effects of air pollution on our health, enviroment and ecominc life. First, talking about the effect of it on our health, the enhaling of these gases is very harmful and poisonious as it causes permenant damage to the lungs , it also affects the brain and the nervious system and makes us suffer from breathing problems and respiratory illness.Carbon Monoxide is considered as the most dangerous gas , because it ââ¬Å"Reduces ability of blood to bring oxygen to body cells and tissues. â⬠(Air pollution, 2011) . Sulphur oxides when combined with the rain droplets , it forms acid rain which ââ¬Å"causes buildings, statues, and monuments to deteriorate. â⬠(Air pollution, 2011) these gases when enhaled into the human body it can cause a lot of damage and may lead to serious situation s and could cause death sometimes, therefor we need to be careful and not to expose our bodies to such gases.Second, the effects of air pollution on our environment, it may lead to the melting of the polar ice caps, can affect the weather distractions which leads to tornadoes , floods , hurricanes and droughts. In addition to that it causes an increase in the sea level . also, it affects the environment in an indirect way through the spread of new diseases which can be hardly cured and it affects the agriculture which is mostly our source of food. Moreover, acid rain can damage buildings, forests, soil, lakes and it affects the aquatic life. Finally, its effect on the economy, it has an impacts in relation to its effect on the human health and the environment. WATER POLLUTION Contamination of water bodies such as lakes, rivers, oceans, groundwater is called water pollution. Water pollution takes place when pollutants are dumped or discharged into these water bodies. Water pollution l eads to the sea life and other living organisms depending on them in danger due to the contaminated water hazardous nature. Biological communities are affected due to water pollution and it keeps growing every yearCAUSES OF WATER POLLUTION Water pollution is one kind of most dangers pollution it contamination the of water bodies (e. g. lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers and groundwater). Water pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged directly or indirectly into water bodies that will kills the marine life and oceans. It comes from factory wastes, sewer systems and oil spills that cause harmful effects in all environments because water is a very necessary for animals and human life (causes of water pollution, 2006). SIDE EFFECTS OF WATER POLLUTIONThere are many side effects that water pollution like killing marine life, spreading diseases in human and animal by contamination of heavy metals and harmful bacteria. it kills green areas like forests and farms by using Pesticides that contaminant ground water which feed plants also it same in sewer system that goes in ground or goes in seas and rivers. the most common thing is oil and lubrication liquids , because of increasing using and west that comes from it, it effect the water environment directly by get rid of it in sea or in ground (Jeantheau, 2005) MEASURES THAT COULD BE TAKENThere are many ways to reduce the pollution in water like recital the old lubrications and avoid throwing it in ground or water surfaces. Also we can use things that not effects the water by reduce the pesticide in farms. Making shipment of oil ship more safety by develop the safety system in transferring of oil and chemical products also repair and replacement of leaking and malfunctioning equipment (Control of pollution, 2006). Survey A survey was conducted by the group members on 50 students from Abu Dhabi Al Ain Campus, both male and female. The following were the results collected: â⬠¢All 50 students knew about different kin ds of pollution â⬠¢48 students thought immediate measure was required to stop pollution â⬠¢41 students admitted to have polluted in one way or other (either land, air or water) â⬠¢33 students said they would be a part of ââ¬Å"going greenâ⬠â⬠¢29 students thought pollution is a problem in UAE Conclusion All in all, pollution of any kind, be it land, water, or air is dangerous and Is affecting the earth and species living on it in harmful ways.It increases every year and the toll gets higher. We as humans have the duty to save our planet for a better tomorrow. Different awareness campaigns and drives could be carried out to promote the dangerous effects of pollution. ââ¬Å"Going greenâ⬠should be focused on and living healthy should be promoted. The changes will not take place overnight but we all can start from now. Bibliography Air Pollution. (2012).
